Sia-UI Screenshot

Sia's first-party graphical interface is called Sia-UI. It is aimed at providing Sia's core functionality (file storage) to users in a friendly and simple way. Many of the more powerful features of Sia (such as choosing your own redundancy) are not presented through the UI in an attempt to make a user's first experience as simple as possible.

A tutorial for getting started using Sia exists here.

The Sia-UI features a full plugin system so that first party and third party plugins can be easily added which extend the functionality for more advanced users. Currently there are no plugins that have been created for the UI.

Upgrading the client

Client upgrade can be performed in several ways:

  • SIA-UI Versions previous to v1.3: A) Download the latest version of the client from B) Close the UI completely (In Windows, click “close” on the system tray icon) C) Install the new version overwriting the old installation folder D) Open the UI again. After certain upgrades, the client may need several minutes to fully initialize (for instance, from 1.2 to 1.3 it might need up to 10 minutes to accomplish the step 2/6)
  • SIA in command line interfaces: Simply use the command “siac update”
  • SIA-UI Versions posterior to v1.3: Go to “About > Check for update”

When updating, always have your seed at hand to be able to recover your funds in case of any problem

While a crash is very unlikely, users renting or hosting might want to backup the folders “host”, “renter” and “wallet” as a security measure before the update. In Windows, they are located in the %AppData% folder (/Users/your_user/AppData/Roaming/Sia-UI/Sia)
